Controlling the Kokko Temperature

Achieving a low temperature

Material

Step 1

Light the Kokko with a single fire starter and keep the lid open for 10 to 15 minutes with the bottom vent fully open. The embers should glow red, but there should be no flames.

Step 2

Close the Kokko lid, leaving a small opening in the bottom vent and slightly opening the chimney at the top. This will achieve a stable temperature of around 100 °C.

  • 2 fire starters

Time

15-20 min

Inside kamado tank

Step 1

Light the Kokko with 2 fire starters and keep the lid open for about 15 to 20 minutes with the bottom vent fully open. The embers will be red, and small flames will appear.

Step 2

Close the Kokko lid and open the chimney at the top to reach 150°C. Once the desired temperature is reached, close the bottom vent by 2/3 and the chimney at the top by 2/3 to maintain a stable temperature.

Achieve a high temperature

  • 3 fire starters

Time

20-30 min

Inside kamado tank

Step 1

Light the Kokko with 3 fire starters and keep the lid open for about 20 to 30 minutes with the bottom vent fully open. The embers will glow, and large flames will appear.

Step 2

Close the Kokko lid and leave the bottom vent and top chimney fully open. Once the desired temperature is reached, close the bottom vent and top chimney halfway.

Tips

If the temperature rises or falls too much, you can open or close the chimney at the top.

If the chimney is opened further, the temperature will rise.

If the chimney is closed further, the temperature will drop.

If the Kokko's temperature does not drop, close the bottom and top vents to smother the fire and lower the temperature.

Good to know: Wind and outside temperature affect the temperature.
