Why Choose a Composite Wood Deck and How to Maintain It

Composite wood decking has many advantages over "traditional" wood. Here's how to maintain it so that it always remains in perfect condition over time.

The advantages of composite wood decking

1. Composite wood is a mixture of wood fibres and plastic fibres, most often recycled. It is mainly polypropylene, polyethylene or PVC.

2. The wood/resin ratio differs from one manufacturer to another, from one quality to another. This material is dyed throughout.

3. It is rot-proof. This has great maintenance advantages compared to wood, which quickly turns grey over time.

However, the material remains porous and does not prevent grease stains, wine stains, grime, or tree resin from penetrating the pores or settling on the surface. It is then very difficult to remove these encrusted stains without risking discolouring the surface by using products that are too aggressive. In addition, UV rays tend to discolour the material in a more or less significant period of time depending on the colour and quality of the boards that make up the deck. Starbrite, a manufacturer specialising for more than 40 years, has designed a range of products to remove stains from and protect porous and dyed materials. It allows you to maintain the composite wood without altering its quality and to regenerate the colours faded over the years. The Special concentrated cleaner for composite wood is ideal for bringing your deck back to life.

Safety: an unmaintained deck, even in composite wood, becomes slippery and dangerous!
