Why choose a wood composite deck and how to maintain it

Wood composite decking offers many advantages over "traditional" wood. Here's how to maintain it so that it stays in perfect condition over time.

The strengths of wood composite decking

1. Wood composite is a mixture of wood fibers and plastic fibers, usually recycled. These are mainly polypropylene, polyethylene or PVC.

2. The wood/resin ratio varies from one manufacturer to another, and from one quality to another. This material is mass-colored.

3. It's rot-proof. This offers major maintenance advantages over wood, which rapidly grays over time.

However, the material remains porous and doesn't prevent grease, wine, grime or tree resin stains from penetrating the pores or depositing on the surface. It is then very difficult to remove these encrusted stains without the risk of discoloring the surface by using overly aggressive products. What's more, UV rays tend to discolor the material over a longer or shorter period of time, depending on the colour and quality of the decking boards. Starbrite, a specialist manufacturer for over 40 years, has designed a range of products to remove stains and protect porous materials. It enables composite wood to be maintained without altering its quality, and regenerates colors that have faded over the years. Le Special Wood Composite Concentrate is ideal for bringing your terrace back to life.

Safety: an unkempt deck, even one made of composite wood, becomes slippery and dangerous!
