Cooking eggs... On the barbecue!

A few precautions before cooking the eggs...

Before rushing in headfirst and rolling the eggs on the grill of your barbecue, make sure they are at room temperature. Indeed, an egg just out of the refrigerator placed in less than two over the embers would risk cracking immediately. Same thing for very fresh eggs, they will be more fragile when cooked. Wait a few days after the laying date for barbecue cooking.

How to cook eggs on the barbecue?

Like cooking in water, the barbecue allows you to obtain different types of egg cooking. On the other hand, to prevent them from breaking once placed on the grill, make sure you have few embers so that the fire is really gentle. You can also move the embers to one side of the barbecue and place the eggs on the other side of the grill for indirect cooking.

To obtain soft-boiled eggs, allow 6 minutes of cooking, between 8 and 10 minutes if you want them medium-boiled depending on whether you like the yolk more or less runny, and finally, let them brown for 12 minutes for them to be hard. The eggs are to be placed whole, with their shells and throughout the cooking, the lid of the Kokko must be closed. If you want to enhance their grilled flavour, after cooking them to your liking and removing the shells, you can place them back on the barbecue for a quick back-and-forth on each side. Use tongs to cook your eggs without burning yourself: catching an egg rolling off the grill with your bare hands can be very dangerous! Before you get started, remember to check all the essential safety standards for a successful barbecue.

Quick tip: to stop the eggs from cooking, and succeed in shelling them easily, plunge them into cold water as soon as they come out of the barbecue.

How about smoking eggs on the BBQ?

As you know, it is easy to give your food an original taste with the Kokko, and eggs are the perfect candidates for smoking! It's the perfect opportunity to have fun with the choice of sawdust and herbs to give them an original flavour. Before smoking them, cook them to obtain soft-boiled eggs that can be peeled without damaging them. This rather fragile product should be smoked cold. Eggs should colour slightly after about 15 minutes, which is a sign that the smoke is beginning to perfume them! What to serve them with?

If there's one way to serve boiled eggs, it's with a slice of toasted bread - on the barbecue, of course, on your classic classic stainless steel grill or on your round cast-iron griddleperfect for evenly toasting bread - and then buttered! Barbecued or smoked eggs add a touch of originality to a summer mixed salad, are delicious with a homemade mayonnaise as an aperitif or starter, and will revitalize your sandwiches and bruschettas .
